An off-grid, modular micro-home concept for young professional migrant couples, where compact 25 m² capsules plug into adaptable steel frameworks to create a flexible, affordable, and community-oriented neighbourhood.
The Peck Pixel is an off-grid, modular micro-home concept designed for young professional migrant couples, with each dwelling limited to 25 m². Inspired by the woodpecker — moving from place to place and creating its own shelter — the concept enables migrants to plug their homes into adaptable steel frameworks near employment hubs.
The project addresses key migrant challenges in cities like Mumbai: high rents, long commutes, poor living conditions, reduced family time, and lack of community.
Each compact capsule combines efficient living with the Indian value of “Atithi Devo Bhava – The Guest is God,” ensuring space for both residents and guests. Multiple capsules come together like pixels, creating a vibrant migrant community — giving rise to the name The Peck Pixel.
Key features include plug-and-play transportable modules, recycled steel frameworks, rail-and-track movement, insulated wall panels, rainwater harvesting, slimline water storage, and integrated solar power.
Ultimately, The Peck Pixel transforms migrant housing from temporary shelter into a flexible, affordable, sustainable, and community-oriented way of living.
